Thank you for your interest in joining the CMU Cross Country Ski Team.

We welcome skiers of intermediate level or higher, from all backgrounds and prior experiences. You do not need to be an elite racer to join, but you should be comfortable skiing independently on varied terrain and ready to train consistently.

What does “intermediate” mean?

An intermediate skier can:

  • Ski both classic and skate with basic technical control
  • Climb moderate hills without stopping
  • Descend with control and have basic turning skills
  • Ski continuously for 45–60 minutes
  • Handle typical winter conditions on groomed trails

If you are unsure whether you meet this level, reach out. We’re happy to have that conversation.

We are a competitive team, but we are also a deeply supportive one. Our culture is built on:

  • Encouragement over ego
  • Accountability to each other
  • Technical improvement and long-term development
  • Respect for teammates, competitors, and course staff/volunteers
  • Gratitude toward those who support our program

We train seriously. We race hard. And we genuinely care about each other.

Athletes on our team come from many different skiing backgrounds: high school programs, small clubs, and multi-sport athletes transitioning into cross country skiing. What matters most is your willingness to work, to improve, and to contribute positively to the team environment.

If you’re ready to grow as an athlete and as a teammate, we look forward to learning more about you.
